Flight ticket fares of 23 inmates were paid off by a philanthropist as part of the "Awdatokm Amana" (Your Return is a Duty) Initiative, the Dubai Police have said.
He also donated additional money to help them to start up a new chapter.
Brigadier Ali Al Shamali, director of the department of punitive and correctional institutions at the Dubai Police, praised the community engagement in the initiative, launched by the Dubai Correctional and Punitive Establishments last week.
The initiative addresses the facilitation of inmates' return to their home countries after serving their sentences. "This action reflects the values of giving, charity and tolerance of Emirati people, which come out of their beliefs of the necessity of solidarity with their fellow human around the world," said Al Shamali.
