A Dubai visitor, charged with assaulting a police officer while drunk, was sentenced to six months in jail by a Dubai court on Sunday.

According to court documents, the 24-year-old Russian woman was drunk when she punched and kicked the female cop all over her body as she was trying to arrest her. She also bit the police sergeant and pulled her by the hair as she was carrying out her duty of taking her into custody.

She denied during her appearance at the Court of First Instance charges of assaulting an on-duty police officer, damage of a public property and drinking alcohol without a licence.

She damaged the police car's backside door and its glass. The court found her guilty of the charges and referred her to the Court of Misdemeanors on the alcohol charge. It also sentenced her to be deported.

The investigating prosecutor recommended that the most severe penalty, as per the law, be inflicted on the visitor, who is currently detained.

The case dates back to February 5 in Naif.

"A report came in about a problem outside a hotel. We went to the hotel and found the accused and another woman had assaulted each other. She would not let me handcuff her but assaulted me instead. Other police officers helped me restrain her. She then damaged the police car after she hit the door with her head and kicked it," the police sergeant told the prosecutor.

A hospital medical report showed the police officer was left with a bite on her forehead, bruise on her right cheek and a swollen hand.

The visitor may appeal the court ruling within 15 days.
