Video: Car catches fire on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road; police on scene

A vehicle caught fire on Sheikh Zayed Road near Business bay and Downtown Dubai area on Friday. One eyewitness described seeing plumes of black smoke billowing from the vehicle. 

“I was driving to Abu Dhabi with friends when I encountered unusually heavy traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road,” said one motorist. “We couldn’t figure out what was happening but as we got closer, we saw that a vehicle was on fire. Fire engines were already on the scene, but more emergency vehicles zoomed past us.”

The incident caused heavy traffic jams on the road in both directions, with maps showing delays, with some tailbacks lasting up to Jumeirah.

The vehicle could later be seen being transported away, once the fire was out. See below:
