Do you own a car in Dubai and do not have a shaded parking place? Now you can apply to install one yourself via the official website of the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), it was announced on Thursday, January 22.
The "Permit to Install Parking Shades in Residential Neighbourhoods" will be applicable to designated and properly reserved parking spaces and will be processed via contracting companies, the RTA stated.
Authorities, however, have highlighted certain requirements that residents should put in mind when installing these shades for their parking lots, so as not to affect the public appearance or the traffic signs.

“The approved requirements for installing parking shades in residential neighbourhoods stipulate that the shades must not affect the continuity of soft mobility or pedestrian movement, nor compromise road safety or the smooth flow of traffic," said Arif Shakri, Director of Right-of-Way at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
"The requirements further specify that the shades must not obstruct traffic signs, impact infrastructure utility lines located beneath pavements and parking areas, and must comply with the design and colour standards approved by RTA."
In addition to this, the installation of the shades must be temporary, allowing for their removal at the request of any service entity sharing infrastructure services in cases of development projects, maintenance works, or emergencies.
He also emphasised the importance of verifying, during the shade installation phase, that all installations fully comply with the standards applied across the Emirate of Dubai.
