A Dubai school paid a heartfelt tribute to one of its students, Emanuele Galeppini, who died in a fire at a Swiss ski resort during New Year celebrations. The Swiss International Scientific School Dubai took to Instagram to remember their "much-loved" student.

“Emanuele was a kind, positive and deeply valued member of our school community,” the note on social media read. “A loyal friend to many, a talented student and sportsman, his warmth, generosity of spirit and zest for life will always be remembered.” The post ended by offering the “deepest condolences” to Emanuele’s family and loved ones.

The Italian golf prodigy was identified as one of the victims of a tragic fire at a ski resort in Crans Montana, Switzerland, which killed 40 people and severely injured over 115. Because of severe burns, identifying the victims took time and was only completed last week. Some 26 of the 40 dead were teenagers, with some victims as young as 14 years old.

Last week, Reuters reported that Emanuele's body had been repatriated to Milan along with those of other Italians who had been killed in the fire, which was described as one of the worst disasters in recent Swiss history. Tributes poured in from across the world as well as UAE’s golfing community

Gone too soon

Many parents penned down their tributes to the young Italian, who was well-known among the golfing circles for his talent. “I don’t know how many times I applauded you on the podium at school,” wrote one. “My heart is broken by your passing, and I deeply sympathise with your mother. You will always be our hearts, a golf champion gone too soon.”

Another parent recalled watching him from the pickup line and described his face lighting up when he saw his mother and younger brother. “We watched the concerts, we participated in your primary showcase days, cheered on your golf victories,” the note continued. “We watched you grow from a little boy into a young man. In all these moments you revealed your warmth, your joy, your innocence, and your love for your family. You left an imprint far greater than the time you were given.”

Several mothers of Emanuele's classmates wrote that their children will miss his company and celebrating his achievements. Many described him as a “humble”, “talented” and “kind” young man.

Emanuele was staying with his family at the resort when the accident occurred in the early hours of January 1. International media reports had stated that his family had spoken to him at midnight and did not hear from him after that. His father later issued a plea saying he was unable to find Emanuele.
