Dubai records drop in human trafficking cases
Human trafficking cases in Dubai have dropped by a third this year with only eight cases registered during the past six months, compared to 12 in the same period last year.
Dr Mohammed Abdulla Al Murr, Director of the General Department for Legal and Disciplinary Control of the Dubai Police, said that this year the Dubai Police have recorded six human trafficking cases compared to eight cases during the same period last year.
Al Murr said that 16 suspects were referred by the police to Dubai Public Prosecution for forcing victims into prostitution. He said that the Dubai Police have specialised section to combat and finding evidences for human trafficking cases while the Dubai Public Prosecution is carrying out the necessary investigation. He said the number of human trafficking victims came down to 16 this year compared to 19 last year.

The Dubai Police successfully differentiate between the cases of prostitution and human trafficking, he said. He stressed the need for better cooperation with other countries which export labourers as the crimes took place due to the social condition in those countries.
