This came as authorities noted an increase in this violation.

Tailgating is punishable with a Dh400 fine and four black points. Last year, the police had said it would impound vehicles for up to 30 days for multiple traffic offences inlcuding tailgating.

The announcement came in a press conference held by the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police on Wednesday, 5 March, where the authority explained that a trial period for monitoring these violations using artificial intelligence technologies integrated into the radar had been conducted.

Brigadier Engineer Mohammed Ali Karam, Director of the Traffic Technology Department, stated, "The trial period was to ensure the accuracy of the radars. "

In addition to tailgating, radars will monitor several other traffic violations in Dubai, including driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise. These advanced radars are capable of detecting the noise, its source, and its degree, ensuring accurate enforcement of noise regulations. The penalty for violating this noise limit is a fine of Dh2,000 and the accumulation of 12 black points on the driver's record.

The noise limit set by the authorities aims to reduce disturbances in residential areas and promote a quieter environment for all residents.

During the conference, the police urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations and emphasized the importance of responsible driving to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.

Radars will also monitor several other traffic violations in Dubai, including:
