Dubai Police to unveil four new programmes to boost security
DUBAI - The Dubai Police are set to launch at least four new programmes aimed at integrating security services, as officials revealed some of previously initiated schemes are now drawing the interest of law enforcement agencies from the Gulf region to Texas and Florida in the United States.

One of the successful programmes was a mechanism to predict crime rates, and a recent drop of three per cent showed the sound criteria on which predictions were made, according to preventive security department officials.
Police said there had been a positive response from the public towards security programmes, especially from the expatriate communities. One of the programmes is called 'People's Participation' that forms part of the strategy to enhance dialogue between police and the general public, according to Major-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.

A comprehensive questionnaire was being prepared, to be distributed to at least 1,000 people incorporating all segments of society. People will be asked to mention 10 things that they want from police, starting from the most important to the lesser in importance on a priority scale.
Maj-Gen Dhahi said the question to be asked is: What do you want from Dubai Police? The person will have to mention 10 points, and police will then be able to figure out the most recurrent issues that have to be tackled by the force. The police chief said those targeted in the questionnaire would include businessmen, individuals involved in the country's educational process, members of consultative, national and executive councils and other segments.
They will be from different nationalities and age groups. The effort is going to be supervised by the Total Quality Department of Dubai Police. Dubai Police officials said with the new programmes, a total of 18 programmes were launched and implemented by Dubai Police since February.
Lieutenant Adel Al Sharid, Director of Preventive Security at Dubai Police, said three other programmes called 'Our Economy', 'Pursuit' and 'Our Community' were set for implementation. 'Our Economy' programme is expected to start in April next year. It is aimed at fighting the phenomenon of dud cheques as well as other economy-related crimes such as the notorious 'money-doubling', swindling and money counterfeiting.
The 'Pursuit' programme was started preliminarily in September. It is aimed at following up international criminal cases with a high degree of precision and efficiency. Officials said it would mean a stricter control on cases of detecting wanted individuals and further enhancement of cooperation with police administrations in the country and abroad.
Lt. Col. Al Sharid said 'Our Community' programme would begin in March next year. It is aimed at further deepening the concept of community policing and educating the public on existing and potential dangers. He said that programme would also strengthen the relation between police and the public, and warning people against falling prey to swindling.
