A recent inspection campaign carried out by Dubai Police resulted in the seizure of 32 jet skis that were either severely damaged or previously involved in accidents, rendering them unfit for operation.

The field inspections targeted jet ski rental companies operating at Dubai Fishing Port 3, according to a statement by the emirate’s police on Sunday.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance maritime security and regulate the marine vehicle rental sector, the statement added.

Other penalties

In addition to seizing the unfit marine vehicles, 39 jet skis were cited for violations related to safety breaches or for operating outside designated routes.

The campaign also uncovered administrative violations by some companies, including the absence of electronic documentation or a lack of clarity in rental procedures.

Immediate warnings were issued to these companies, and detailed observations were documented for submission to the relevant licensing and legal oversight authorities.

Fines for unlicensed operators

The police authority also clarified that the fine for operating an unlicensed marine vehicle or one not authorised to operate in the emirate’s waters amounts to Dh5,000.

Using a marine vehicle after its license has expired and not renewing it incurs a fine of Dh1,000. Companies renting out unfit marine vehicles are subject to a fine of Dh5,000, while obstructing or preventing inspectors from performing their duties also results in a fine of Dh5,000.

Jet ski rental offices were urged to regularly inspect the condition of jet skis and marine equipment before use, to ensure the availability of safety and security measures before and after rental, and to comply with the terms and conditions of rental contracts, wishing safety to all.
