Dubai Police arrest fans for rioting after Al Wasl, Shabab Al Ahli football match

The UAE Football Association's Disciplinary Committee also issued hefty penalties against the clubs

Dubai Police arrested certain individuals who were involved in riots after the UAE Pro League fixture between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs, the authority announced Wednesday.
The authority launched an immediate investigation after the match ended, using surveillance footage and video analysis to identify those responsible for the altercations and public disturbances.
The League game took place at the Zabeel Stadium on Saturday, May 3, which Al Wasl won 2-1.

Legal action was taken against those arrested and they were referred to the relevant authorities for further proceedings, the police stated
The UAE Football Association's Disciplinary Committee also issued hefty penalties against the clubs.
Shabab Al Ahli Club was fined Dh70,000 for fans verbally abusing opposing supporters and throwing water bottles both onto the pitch and at rival fans.
Meanwhile, Al Wasl Club received a fine of Dh80,000 for fans igniting a smoke flare, directing offensive chants at the opposition, and throwing objects onto the field and toward other spectators.
Dubai Police urged the public to avoid any fanaticism and unruly behaviour in stadiums and during sporting events.
"Sporting events are intended to bring enjoyment and foster healthy competition in a spirit of mutual respect among fans," an official said.
"Stadiums must remain spaces of camaraderie and joy, not arenas of conflict and aggression," he added.
The authority highlighted that it would take legal action against anyone violating security protocols or fan conduct regulations as it always ensures to secure stadiums, protect attendees, monitor vehicle movement, and provide all necessary services before, during, and after matches.
Earlier, the football governing body had decided to suspend the refereeing team that officiated the match between Al Ain and Al Jazira on Sunday. The suspension will last until the end of the season.
As per the association, the decision comes in accordance with the internal regulations of the Referees Committee.
