A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison in Dubai after stabbing a compatriot multiple times. He was found guilty of attempted murder and was fined a total of Dh150,000 on top of the jail term, according to a ruling issued by the Dubai Criminal Court.
The man, an Indian national, and the victim lived in a shared accommodation in Al Quoz Industrial Area. In December 2023, the duo were drinking alcohol when an argument broke out over an insult that the victim reportedly hurled at the defendant, court records show.

Witnesses reported that, in a state of intoxication, the accused grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, face, and abdomen, causing severe injuries.
Authorities who responded to the incident found the victim on the floor, bleeding heavily. He was immediately taken to Rashid Hospital.
Medical reports confirmed that the victim suffered deep stab wounds, leading to internal bleeding and requiring urgent surgical intervention.
The authorities arrested the accused and recovered the knife used in the attack.
'He was acting strange'
During the trial, the defendant denied intent to kill, claiming that he acted under the influence of alcohol and did not recall the full details of the attack.
“He (the accused) was drunk and acting strange, laughing for no reason at times,” said a co-worker who witnessed the incident.
“Both the victim and the accused were seated next to each other in the smoking area. Just seconds after I turned my attention to my mobile phone, they began screaming at each other, which ultimately led to the stabbing,” he added.
After the stabbing incident, the accused was reported to have also barged into the labour accommodation and caused a disturbance, according to court records.
The judges also convicted the accused of a separate charge of consuming alcohol and causing a disturbance in a public place.
He received an additional six months in prison and a fine of Dh100,000, in addition to an initial Dh50,000 penalty.
The court ordered his deportation upon completion of his sentence.
