The wrongly-attributed release also listed companies that were flagged 'based on complaints received from Indian exporters and international trade partners'

A press release, wrongly attributed to the Consulate General of India in Dubai, claims that the Indian ministry warned exporters to exercise caution when dealing with UAE-based companies.

The Indian mission in Dubai clarified that they had not issued such a statement and asked for the removal of the article published on a website called Juris Hour. The Indian mission reminded readers that press releases are only hosted on the consulate's official portal.

The article initially claimed that "certain UAE-based companies, particularly in the foodstuff and general trading sectors" engaged in fraudulent activities and unethical practices, prompting the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to issue an advisory.

The wrongly-attributed release also listed names of companies that were flagged "based on complaints received from Indian exporters and international trade partners." It further said Indian exporters could "liaise with Indian missions" in the UAE for guidance as a step of the so-called advisory.

After the Consulate General in Dubai denied that any press release was issued, the website updated the article to warn about the "fake circular."

"The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, has officially denied issuing any such advisory," the website said.

The Indian missions in UAE frequently warn expats of fraudulent messages or calls that mislead the public into assuming that it is an official one from the embassy or consulate.

Last year, the Indian Consulate in Dubai warned expats of fraudulent calls that reflect the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra number, and seek to extort money on the pretext of solving a fake immigration matter. The mission reiterated that the consulate will not call Indian nationals for any immigration matters.
