Dubai is set to reach a newmilestone on Wednesday (January 21), as it prepares to host the world’s largest unified virtual sign language lesson — an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records while reinforcing the emirate's commitment to community integration and the empowerment of People of Determination.

The initiative is part of Dubai Communicates in Sign Language, launched in October last year by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination.

Scheduled from 10am to 11am, the virtual lesson will introduce participants from around the world to the basics of Emirati Sign Language, bringing together a global audience for a shared learning experience.

The Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai invited all members of the community to participate in this event and help the emirate set a new world record.

Highlighting the purpose behind the initiative, Maitha Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Community Empowerment Sector at the CDA, said the event aims to raise awareness and support the deaf people who are hard of hearing.

“This is a message from Dubai to the world that says Dubai is one family, and we are proud of all our members and celebrate our differences," she said.

The Dubai Communicates in Sign Language initiative is a key part of Dubai’s broader strategy to become a fully inclusive city.

It aligns with the goals of the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the emirate’s strategy for social empowerment, enhancing its position as a global leader in innovative solutions that support the community of People of Determination.

Registration for the virtual lesson is open to everyone through the official website, dcsl.cda.gov.ae. Upon registration, participants will receive a link to join the lesson and contribute to this historic world record attempt.
