Dubai football clubs Al Wasl, Shabab Al Ahli fined Dh150,000 for fan behaviour

Football fans in the UAE are regularly cautioned by authorities to maintain respectful conduct and unruly behaviour can lead to prosecution and legal consequences

Dubai-based football clubs Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli have been fined by the disciplinary committee of the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) following events that unfolded during the Adnoc Pro League match between the two sides over the weekend.

Al Wasl were fined Dh80,000 after their fans lit a smoke bomb, verbally abused Shabab Al Ahli fans and also threw liquid bottles onto the pitch and at the opposing team's fans.

Shabab Al Ahli were fined Dh70,000 after the club's fans insulted Al Wasl fans and threw liquid bottles at them and onto the pitch.

The League game took place at the Zabeel Stadium on Saturday, May 3, which Al Wasl won 2-1.

Nicolas Gimenez scored on 20 minutes, while Fabio De Lima doubled the lead on 48 minutes, for Al Wasl. Saeid Ezatolahi pulled one back for Shabab Al Ahli on 79 minutes.

Football fans in the UAE are regularly cautioned by authorities to maintain respectful conduct during and post matches. Unruly behaviour or involvement in riots can lead to prosecution and legal consequences.

On Monday, the governing body had decided to suspend the refereeing team that officiated the match between Al Ain and Al Jazira on Sunday. The suspension will last until the end of the season, the association added.

As per the association, the decision comes in accordance with the internal regulations of the Referees Committee.
