Dubai: $3 million up for grabs at autonomous transport challenge

Self-driving cars are increasingly becoming a reality, and Dubai is calling on technology experts, innovators, and specialists to make this happen fast.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Wednesday registration for the 4th Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport is now open.

Set to take place from September 24–25, this event is also an international competition that brings together industry leaders, start-ups, and academia to tackle real-world mobility challenges faced by global cities.

Up for grabs is total prize worth $3 million that will go to those who will “present the most innovative solutions in autonomous mobility."

"The Dubai World Self-Driving Transport Congress aims to showcase Dubai's vision to transition 25 per cent of the city’s transport modes to autonomous systems by 2030,” noted Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

“During the congress, the winning consortium of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2024 will be announced. The winning consortium will receive a prize of $3 million, with participants in the challenge competing to present the most innovative solutions in autonomous mobility,” added Bahrozyan, who is also chair of the Organising Committee for the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport.”

The theme for this year’s transport congress is ‘Redefining Mobility: The Path to Autonomy’. RTA said this underscores their “commitment to strengthening the leading role of Dubai and expanding the use of autonomous mobility technology at all levels. This edition of the challenge includes a variety of integrated transport modes that bring together multiple systems in one area for the use of passengers.”

Expected to attend are technology experts, innovators, specialists, decision-makers, investors, and government officials from around the world to explore and discuss the latest advancements in autonomous mobility.
