A drug addict, who assaulted three police officers while resisting arrest, was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
Court documents show that on March 6, the 32-year-old Emirati kicked the three cops who had taken him into custody.
Crystal meth and other narcotics had been found in his possession.
Besides the charge of physical assault, the defendant - who has been detained - is also accused of consuming psychotropic pills and possessing illegal drugs.
A police corporal said he was at Al Barsha police station when he was called in as a back-up for two colleagues in another patrol.
"When we responded to their call, we found the defendant resisting the two police officers. He was hitting himself and knocking himself down. He would not let them handcuff him. He was also trying to escape. The officer-in-charge then came, and we restrained the accused and took him into custody."
A policeman said they were on patrol duty when they spotted the defendant's car. "The car's registration was expired, so we asked the driver to pull over. He and his companions did not look fine. We searched the car and found drugs, which we handed over to the anti-narcotics officers.
"However, the accused behaved violently and kicked us. He didn't want to get inside the police car. We had to call for back-up."
The forensic report showed that the defendant's urine sample tested positive for drugs.
It was also found that he had a criminal record.
The accused will be sentenced on September 12.
