A very sensitive divorce case is making headlines in the UAE.
The Abu Dhabi Personal Status court has rejected a request submitted by a divorced couple who want to get married again.
The couple, in their request submission to the court, urged it to cancel the first and second divorces (under Islamic law), adding that the husband was under mental stress as he suffers from a sleep disorder and had used the right to divorce irresponsibly.
After 10 years of marriage, the woman asked for the third divorce as the man's violent temper - due to his sleep disorder - was affecting their marriage.
They had approached a judicial authority for the third divorce.
However, for the next two years - the report adds - that they missed each other and decided to submit a request to reinstate their marriage to the court.
The court rejected their request, citing the Malaki school of law or jurispudence in Islam that once the marriage has ended after three divorces, it cannot be reinstated.
