Sharjah: Over 136kg narcotics seized in foiled drug smuggling attempts at airport during 2024
The customs authority also seized other narcotic substances at the airport, including more than 20,000 drug pills, as well as drug-laced stamps and containers

Sharjah's customs authority revealed it had foiled several attempts to smuggle over 136kg of narcotic substances through Sharjah International Airport during 2024.
The authority also seized other narcotic substances at the airport, including more than 20,000 drug pills, as well as drug-laced stamps and containers, the Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority announced on Wednesday.

The drug seizures came after proactive monitoring, constant vigilance of customs officers, strong security awareness, and officers' meticulous inspection of travellers’ luggage and incoming parcels using the latest detection technologies and advanced customs systems.
The authority said in its statement that it had a firm stance against smugglers and anyone attempting to bring prohibited substances into Sharjah’s air, sea, and land customs ports.
It reaffirmed its full commitment to deploying all resources to enhance efforts in combating smuggling attempts of any kind, particularly narcotics.
The authority had revealed last year that seven attempts of narcotics smuggling had been thwarted by Sharjah authorities from July to September in 2024. A total number of 45.426kg drugs were seized from Khalid Port during this period. These smuggling attempts were made by concealing the drugs in bags, machines, or containers.
In October 2024, Sharjah Police arrested a gang of six suspects after seizing a package of illegal drugs coming in from a foreign country. The six individuals of Asian origin - part of a wider network - were transporting the package via a shipping company. The authority found A4 size paper laced with 4kg of drugs known as 'Spice'.
In another incident during the month, the customs authority stated that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle 8.716kg of narcotics at Sharjah International Airport.
In August last year, Sharjah Police arrested a gang that planned to smuggle narcotics inside marble stones, thwarting the attempt through an operation called 'the destructive stone'. The three accused were directed by dealers outside the country.
