Coronavirus: UAE reports 731 new cases, 581 recoveries, 6 deaths

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday announced 731 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, as well as 581 recoveries.

Six new deaths from the infection were also announced today.

The ministry, which has conducted over 1.5 million Covid-19 tests across the country, has affirmed its aim to further expand the scope of testing to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. It has also called on the public to cooperate with health authorities and adhere to social distancing protocols and preventative measures to ensure the health and safety of all.

Meanwhile, the Dubai Municipality is mulling a three-phase reopening of public parks in the emirate, which were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said that Dubai Municipality has decided to restart public parks and recreational facilities in Dubai in gradual and successive stages, with careful monitoring and follow-up of developments.

Residents in the country have also been urged to avoid gatherings and inviting relatives and friends over for greetings and buffets during Eid Al Fitr this year. During a regular virtual press briefing held on Saturday, Dr Amna Al Dahhak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE government, called on all families and members of the community to avoid the social visits tradition this year as Eid Al Fitr comes under the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. "Avoiding crowds and keeping social distancing remain a must. We advise the community to avoid these habits and traditions and skip them this year."
