Coronavirus in UAE: Abu Dhabi buildings, markets sterilized

Abu Dhabi - Officials said they have also stepped up cleaning services in the shuttles used in public parks and other modes of transport.

Buildings, salons, beauty centres, livestock markets, slaughterhouses and children's play areas in Abu Dhabi have been sterilised by the civic body as part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
On its official social media channels, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality announced that it has implemented the sterilisation campaign in all its buildings and facilities that are frequently visited by the people.
Officials said they have also stepped up cleaning services in the shuttles used in public parks and other modes of transport.
According to the municipality, the sterilisation drive has also been carried out in Al Dhafrah and Al Ain regions, and covers public parks, gardens and abattoirs. The teams are using effective materials to kill viruses and bacteria.
The massive sterilisation campaign comes following instructions from the Ministry of Health and Prevention to all government and private establishments.
Livestock, birds and pets' markets, salons, stores and other places visited by hordes of people were also sterilising their facilities on a daily basis.
Mohammed Khalid, a Bangladeshi salon worker in Abu Dhabi's Musaffah Shabiyah, said they were sterilising the salon equipment before and after use on every customer, wearing gloves and nose masks, sterilising the chairs, using the towel only once for each customer and providing hand sanitisers.
"We are not allowed to touch customers with our bare hands right now; no facials are being done as we are using hand gloves," Khalid told Khaleej Times.
"We are taking every step to ensure our own safety as well as that of our customers. Municipal inspectors are visiting all salons and beauty centres in the area twice daily to check that there's no violation of hygiene and health rules."
Qamar Al Din Khan, a vendor in the Abu Dhabi livestock market, said the municipality had sprayed sterilisation materials on the floors of the entire market, and ordered transfer of any livestock showing signs of illness to veterinarians at the Abu Dhabi slaughterhouse for necessary action.
