Bars, pubs and lounges in Dubai have been closed as part of the emirate's precautionary measures against the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Bars within restaurants will also be closed.

In a circular addressed to "all hotel establishments in Dubai", the Department of Tourism Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said the move is in line with the Dubai Government's precautionary measures to "ensure the health and safety of its residents and visitors".

The temporary closure order came into effect on Monday and will be in place till the end of the month. The authority said it would "continuously evaluate the situation" in coordination with the health authorities.

Dubai had previously announced the temporarily closure of all cinemas, theme parks, amusement and electronic game centres, gyms and spring camps.
