She met a horrific accident in Dubai on May 26, 2002 and was in a comatose state for eight months. Defying all predictions, she emerged from her coma. But the accident has left her severely disabled. She is unable to walk, stand, speak or hear. She has to be fed and bathed.

Her condition forced her parents to leave their jobs in Dubai and move to India. She is at present on a visit to Dubai, with her mother, Cynthia Vaz. Carol expressed her desire to see the Dubai Shopping Festival, and the DSF authorities helped bring her here to fulfil her wish. Carol’s condition has been a tremendous emotional and financial strain on the Vaz family. Just last month, a severe attack of convulsions resulted in her going into deep coma once again.

It was indeed a miracle that she emerged from it and was brave enough to travel to Dubai.

Carol and her family have shown immense courage, fortitude and indomitable spirit through these six years of trials and tribulations.

A cochlear implant will help Carol hear and improve the quality of her life — the implant is an electronic device that restores partial hearing to the deaf. It is surgically implanted in the inner ear and activated by a device worn outside the ear.

It is an expensive implant that the Vaz family cannot afford.

This is an appeal for financial aid. Organisations and individuals who may wish to help her can call Cynthia Vaz till February 25 on 050-7398986 and, thereafter, on her residence number in Mumbai, India: 009122-29200459.
