The Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has launched a brainstorming lab to enable its staff and clients to submit ideas and suggestions related to the Year of Zayed.
The lab will see a number of local and federal departments, ministries and authorities - plus 4,000 male and female PCFC employees and 200,000 clients - participating.
The move is in response to the announcement of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who declared 2018 the 'Year of Zayed' to mark the birth centenary of the UAE's founding father.
Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, director of PCFC's corporate communication department, said the lab is meant to encourage employees to innovate and come up with new ideas and initiatives in fulfilment of the Year of Zayed agenda. "The lab will be a great opportunity to deliver innovative ideas and suggestions. The agenda will consist of two phases."
The first will see employees and clients share their ideas to be put into practice in the second phase, bin Gharib explained. "These ideas will be activated and shared with other strategic partners including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, amongst many others."
The lab will cover seven main issues, spanning health and environment, leadership, humanitarian issues, citizenship, security, heritage, and education, bin Gharib explained. "These are the issues that the late Sheikh Zayed prioritised in his fruitful years as President."
Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs, pointed out that the lab will help participants deliver the best of ideas that will be put into practice for the common benefit. "These ideas and initiatives represent the importance of this great character. It's also a chance for all employees to express their gratitude and love to the UAE's founding father."

'Celebrating a great leader, his values and vision'
His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has praised the directives of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to mark 2018 as the 'Year of Zayed'.
"Such a noble initiative will remind us of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's journey to glory," Sheikh Humaid said, recalling that when he became the Ruler of Abu Dhabi in 1966, Sheikh Zayed was well aware that nations are strengthened by their people's unity, amity and committment.
"The late Sheikh Zayed was a visionary leader who transformed the UAE into a modern nation. The prosperity, security and stability we enjoy today were a result of his dedicated efforts to build capabilities and to wisely utilise resources," he noted.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, hailed Sheikh Zayed, saying he had created an immortal national history and humanitarian civilisation.
He said Sheikh Zayed's talents in leadership and nationhood will be realised through the rise of a modern country that seeks prosperity for the whole of humanity and is strengthened by the arms of its children.
Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, has also congratulated the UAE leadership, government, and people for announcing the 'Year of Zayed'. She emphasised that it embodies a unified nation, to bring about initiatives and achievements for progress and prosperity, in light of the current UAE leadership's directives.
The UAE's values, principles, and traditions had their foundations set by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, and are embodied by Emirati citizens, followed in various fields and sectors, she noted. "It is imperative that we, as Emiratis, continue on the path of progress and prosperity, inspired by the ideas of Sheikh Zayed when launching our local and international initiatives and projects.
"Sheikh Zayed was a pioneer of developing humankind and humanity, and in providing all that humanity is capable of giving locally, regionally, and internationally," the Minister of State for Tolerance pointed out.
Similarly, Dr Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and chairman of the Board of Directors of National Media Council (NMC) has affirmed that the declaration of 2018 as the Year of Zayed reflects the desire to preserve the late leader's legacy and build a nation that invests in its people, using foresight and vision.
"The Year of Zayed is an opportunity to learn from the wisdom and giving of the founder of the nation, to teach our sons and daughters about it and enable them to continue reaping the rewards. The values Sheikh Zayed was keen to promote are derived from the tolerance of the Islamic religion." - Wam
