The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in UAE said on Sunday that the notorious Blue Whale game - also dubbed as suicide game - is banned and not accessible in the UAE, according to Al Bayan newspaper.
The TRA added that since 2016, the authority has been monitoring reports and news about the game - which prompts players to harm themselves and eventually take their own lives - to prevent its adverse impact from UAE residents. The authority stressed that the game was banned in the country, and all links, apps and websites linked to the game had been blocked, to ensure safety of the children and teenagers.
After thorough investigation, the TRA confirmed that there weren't any apps, websites or links that allow the public to access the game. It has also sought cooperation with different bodies to remove any groups on social media that incite people to inflict self-harm.
