Benefits for principals to be based on performance
DUBAI - Promotions and incentives for principals of schools shall be decided on the basis of their performance in qualifying courses.

This was stated by Minister of Education Dr. Haneef Hassan yesterday, following a meeting at the Zayed University with 24 male and female school principals from all over the country enrolled in the programme of school principals' educational leadership.
The ministry will be reassessing the files of all the principals who failed to join the ministry-run training courses, which include International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) programmes, Dr. Hassan said, adding that 90 per cent of principals have registered for the ICDL course.

The principals enrolled in the educational leadership programme need to pass eight training subjects in order to be eligible for a professional licence in school administration. The subjects include ICDL, TOEFL, alteration of school work, effective use of data in developing school work, leadership-based administration, establishing a school community fit for continuous learning, and efficient community interaction, Hassan explained.
The one-year course - six weeks for each subject - will be conducted by specialists and educational experts from the Ministry of Education and the Zayed University.
