Ramadan begins: UAE Awqaf announces Fajr, Iftar timings for the holy month

The Moon-Sighting Committee confirmed the sighting of the crescent on February 17, confirming that Ramadan will start tomorrow

The UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments & Zakat announced timings for the holy month.

In the UAE, the Moon-Sighting Committee convened at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi and successfully spotted the crescent, confirming that tomorrow marks the first day of Ramadan.

Excitement filled the UAE today as Muslims eagerly awaited the sighting of the crescent moon, which will determine the start of Ramadan.

Here are the prayer timings released by Awqaf for the holy month:

Ramadan Prayer Timings

Across the country, the faithful joined millions worldwide in looking to the skies after sunset, hoping to confirm whether the holy month would begin.

The crescent moon for Ramadan has also been sighted in Saudi Arabia, meaning the holy month will start on February 18. Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain have also announced the first day of Ramadan to be Wednesday, February 18.

Meanwhile, Oman announced that Ramadan will begin on Thursday, February 19, after its Main Committee for Moon Sighting said the crescent moon was not sighted on the evening of February 17.
