A smart app for renting homes is giving UAE healthcare workers discounts on rent - including one to two months free on some listings -in recognition of their efforts in the country's fight against Covid-19.
Urban, a proptech company, announced on Wednesday that it has waived its five per cent service fee for healthcare workers who want to rent via its platform, "potentially saving them thousands of dirhams depending on the value of their rental contract".
Some landlords also agreed to offer frontliners free rent for one to two months as part of the initiative, Urban said.
"Frontline healthcare workers are the heroes of this crisis and deserve every praise and support, particularly during these difficult times. We hope that our small gesture of appreciation goes a long way in making their search for a new home easier while minimising the risk posed by traditional house-hunting practices," said Tala Nsouli, general manager of Urban.
Eligibility for the discounts covers all employees of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), so long as they submit their DHA labour card for approval.
Healthcare institutions that wish to extend the offer to their employees are encouraged to reach out to Urban at
The rental app, which was launched in February this year, allows people looking for homes to discover, visit and rent properties - all online. It offers 360-degree virtual walkthroughs and eliminates paperwork.
Minimising face-to-face interactions, it also enables its users to view homes in person without the presence of a broker. Healthcare workers who work long, unconventional hours can then schedule viewings at their convenience, Urban said.
The company then helps tenants manage their cashflows by giving them the ability to pay their rent in 12 monthly instalments, as well as through multiple payment options such as card or bank transfer.
