The flow of traffic will be smooth, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has assured motorists.
The temporary closure begins from today (Friday).
A Press statement issued by the RTA yesterday quoted Nabeel Mohammed Saleh, director of Roads Department at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency as saying: “All necessary measures are in place to ensure smooth traffic flow on the roads. The measures include provision of alternative roads to motorists heading to Bur Dubai.”
Saleh has urged motorists heading to Bur Dubai to use the Business Bay Crossing or to use other alternative roads to which traffic has been diverted.
Motorists inbound from the Airport Tunnel may go to Nad Al Hummer and drive through Al Rebat Road to the Business Bay Crossing. Motorists inbound from Marrakesh Road may drive through the freeway leading to the Business Bay Crossing, while others coming from Casablanca Road may drive through Al Rebat Road towards the Business Bay Crossing.
The official noted that the temporary closure of the roads was aimed at facilitating demolition works of the old Al Garhoud Bridge as part of the RTA’s preparations to open the new bridge by next March.
Construction work on the new bridge started in February 2006. The Dh415 million bridge project consists of seven lanes in each direction.
