Financial disputes worth Dh24 million were amicably resolved out of court during the first half of 2020 as part of an Ajman Police initiative, an official has said.
Colonel Ali Jaber Al Shamsi, director of the department of comprehensive police stations, said the "Pardon when able" initiative, which was launched in 2016, is aimed at promoting tolerance among the public and reduce work burden on the police and courts.
During the first six months, the police managed to resolve 14 per cent of the total cases received at the police stations, including those related to bounced cheques, financial issues and family, civil and labour disputes among others.
Al Shamsi explained that the police stations do not interfere in the interest of any of the parties on dispute at the other's expense, but rather work to provide facilities for the success of the settlement once one of them expresses the desire to resolve the problem amicably. "We give them enough time to make up their mind. Once they agree, an undertaking is written and signed by both of the parties at the centre without referring the case to the prosecution."
He added that the initiative aims to resolve the disputes between the litigants disputing over large amounts of money, as often those accused in these cases are not criminals. They are mostly merchants and business owners whose financial affairs have stalled for some reasons. "Through the initiative, we support their return to practise their activities again to continue their lives naturally," he added.
Al Shamsi pointed out that the community support centre implemented 22 initiatives as part of its ongoing efforts to integrate the police into the community and deliver justice.
