Ajman records 12% drop in road fatalities in 2019

Ajman - Most of these crashes occurred because of speeding, wrong overtaking, lack of attention during driving and tailgating.

There was a 12 per cent drop in deaths caused by road accidents in Ajman during 2019, police records have revealed.
Brigadier Khaled Mohammed Al Nuaimi, deputy director-general of police operations at Ajman Police, pointed out most of these crashes occurred because of speeding, wrong overtaking, lack of attention during driving and tailgating.
He said that road fatalities decreased from 17 in 2018 to 15 in 2019 (per 100,000 people). There has been a decrease in the total number of minor accidents as well.
The emirate witnessed 36,581 minor traffic crashes during 2019, as compared to 37,006 such mishaps in 2018 - a drop of 1 per cent, he added. The run-over accidents have come down to 19 during 2019 as compared to 2018, thanks to joint efforts of the police and the Ajman Municipality which has built a number of footbridges and crossing ways while intensifying traffic awareness as well.
Al Nuaimi attributed the decline in fatal crashes to stepped up traffic patrols and implementation of road safety initiatives. "The police constantly communicate with the Ajman Municipality to enhance road safety - establishing pedestrian bridges and iron barriers etc."
