The Ministry of Economy, on Wednesday, instructed Ajman markets and Cooperative Society’s Al Jurf branch to instal barcode price detection devices for consumers to check prices of items before buying them to reduce complaints of differences between shelf and cashier prices.
The instruction was made during the ongoing inspection visits programme covering markets and points of sale all over the Emirate during the holy month of Ramadan.
In response to Dr. Al Nuaimi’s queries, the cooperative’s management clarified that it has launched an initiative to fix the prices of around 160 items all year round at an average value of around Dh18 million. They added that three consecutive discount campaigns have been launched for Ramadan and Eid with an average value of Dh50 million. All the campaigns include around 1,000 food and consumable items with a discount rate of around 35 to 40 per cent.
The management team further mentioned that the average daily sales at the Al Jurf branch are normally at about 2,000 transactions. The increased demand on Ramadan offers, particularly during the first days of the holy month, pushed the number to around 4,900. The total sales of the Ajman Markets Cooperative Society for 2015 in its three branches (Nuaimiya, Al Rumailah and Al Jurf) stood at Dh263 million, with the number of the society’s shareholders increasing to 3,800.
At the end of the tour, Dr. Al Nuaimi emphasised the Ajman Markets Cooperative Society’s continuous development, noting its success in providing excellent well-structured services that fully satisfy customers. The director affirmed that the cooperative is providing sufficient quantities of consumables and food products to the population of Ajman City. He added that the Cooperative Society is making attractive and extensive price reductions and that such campaigns are undertaken throughout the year.
