Ajman Forensic Lab set to open

AJMAN — The Forensic Laboratory of the Ajman Police Department will start functioning from October 1,

When it would be officially inaugurated by His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, Colonel Ali Alwan, Deputy Director General of Ajman Police has said.

"The Laboratory, established at an estimated cost of Dh2 million, is equipped with advanced technological equipment which will be used for anatomy and blood test and analysis of narcotics. The establishment of this laboratory is considered an addition to the development of the police operations, which ensures peace and security. It will also help save time and effort in unravelling crime mysteries, which would lead to quick arrest of criminals," he told Khaleej Times yesterday.

He said the laboratory was established under instructions from Shaikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, to help enhance the performance of the police and security in the emirate. The Ajman Laboratory will also provide services for Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain police departments in the field of anatomy and forensic inspection and examination of crime scenes.

He said Ajman Police had already appointed a forensic pathologist and two forensic assistants who will soon start working in the laboratory to provide services for the police departments in Ajman, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. The launch of this laboratory was part of the police services expansion project which is being carried out under the instructions of Shaikh Ammar to cope with the rapid development witnessed by the emirate in all fields.

Col Al Wan said the crime graph had gone up in the past two years due to the increasing number of residents in the emirate from various cultures and background. But, the police officers in Ajman are well known for their quality and efficiency, which helps a great deal in busting criminal activity within a short time.
