The Ajman Municipality on Wednesday banned the sale of all tobacco products for 24 hours to mark the World No Tobacco Day. Various outlets including 15 Adnoc petrol stations and 150 other shops in the emirate implemented the ban.
Abdel Rahman Mohamed Al Nuaimi, director of the Ajman Municipality, said that the civic body is keen to actively take part in social and humanitarian causes that bring benefits to the public.
The Ajman Municipality and Planning Directorate marks the No Tobacco Day every year as a social obligation to maintain people's health and to highlight the fatal impact of smoking.
"The UAE is among the first countries that signed the WHO agreement on June 24, 2003, to combat smoking and the agreement was attested on November 7, 2005 that was followed by implementation of a law that was issued in this regard in 2009," said Al Nuaimi.
