The US Embassy in the UAE has issued an advisory, warning businesses against fraudsters soliciting purchase orders for solar generators.
The scam involves individuals falsely claiming to represent the embassy - by using their name, logo and phone number - while seeking payments for fake contracts.
"If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from the Embassy without a '@state.gov' email address, please contact DS_RSOABU_DHABI@state.gov  immediately," said the statement.
The embassy strongly urged residents not to act on requests from unauthorised entities, and affirmed that US government procurement procedures follow strict regulations as outlined in the US Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

Residents were advised to exercise caution if they received any email claiming to represent the embassy that did not have a properly formatted US
Department of State email address, and that was asking for payment.
The mission also noted that it had been made aware of unauthorised calls appearing to be from the US Embassy.
"This is likely an attempt to scam individuals by persuading them their purported offer, such as a university degree, is legitimate," the statement said.
"If you receive an unexpected call from the US Embassy and are unsure whether the call is legitimate, we advise you to end the call or offer to call the person back by dialling the main Embassy switchboard number 00971 2 414 2200."
