Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who passed away on Monday, will be laid to rest in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, November 20. Funeral prayers will be held at Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed The First Mosque in Al Bateen, after the noon prayers.
The bereaved family will receive condolences till Friday at Al Mushrif Palace.
Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed, the President's Representative, was the brother of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Condolences and tributes for the late leader poured in from the UAE and abroad. Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and Crown Princes offered their sympathies to Al Nahyan Family, with the Fujairah Ruler saying the UAE had lost one of its most loyal men. His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi said: "Sheikh Sultan used to escort the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, since the early journey of establishing the Union. With his departure, we recall the long journey of building our nation."
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, said Sheikh Sultan was an example of wisdom, leadership and political insight. "He performed his duties towards the UAE and the people of the UAE with sincerity and loyalty throughout his honourable and accomplished career."
Flags across the UAE were flown at half-mast as the nation mourned Sheikh Sultan. The UAE had declared a three-day mourning on Monday.
Sympathies from abroad
Condolences poured in from abroad, with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, personally calling His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his sympathies to Sheikh Khalifa and Al Nahyan family. "I offer my deepest condolences to Sheikh Khalifa on the demise of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with Al Nahyan family and the people of UAE," he tweeted.
Dr Shawki Allam, Egypt's Grand Mufti, also expressed his condolences.
