Abu Dhabi announces new fines for health insurance violations

Abu Dhabi - The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday released a decision that listed out 43 violations.

New fines for violations of health insurance policies have been issued in Abu Dhabi, including the penalty for an employer who fails to cover an employee's emergency healthcare costs.
The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday released a decision that listed out 43 violations, where fines ranged from Dh100 to Dh20,000.
A Dh5,000 fine shall be imposed on anyone who allows another person to use his or her insurance, according to the policy. Employers will be fined Dh1,000 if they refuse to cover the emergency care of their staff, who are supposed to have valid health insurance cover.
The decision also stated that a stiff Dh20,000 penalty shall be levied on any insurance company or third-party administrator (TPA) that fails to pay or delays the payment for healthcare services.
"The decision emphasises the government's wishes to secure the rights of all parties, and to provide continuous healthcare service to all community members," Abu Dhabi Media Office said on Twitter.
