It's been close to a month since Indian seaman Aayush Chaudhary went missing in Iranian waters and his father Anoop and cousin sister Shaili are in Dubai to plead with the local authorities to find him.
The family, which hails from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has doubts such as foul play, human trafficking, slavery, harassment and other angles. A visibly upset Anoop wants to know the truth. "My son came to Dubai in May. He left for Iran in a vessel from here. He went missing in Iranian waters. I request the local authorities to help find my son. He is out there somewhere. Please help, I want to know the truth," he pleaded.
Shaili said family members had knocked on all doors of officials back home but it didn't yield any result. The family is banking on support from the local police, Dubai Consulate and social workers. "Everyone in the family is devastated. Aayush went missing since July 15. We want to know what happened to him. We have been misled by the recruitment agents and brokers. We were told by his company that he fell off the ship and swept away. Rescue efforts were done but he wasn't found. The vessel is Pink Rose and owned by a Panama-based company Falling Star Shipping. Mutawasit Marine Services based in Dubai is the vessel's agent. We are following all details. The vessel was at Jebel Ali Port till August 6 and left for its new destination. We are in talks with an official from the ship. We went to the Port Rashid Police Station. Police can help follow up the case with ship officials who are based in Dubai. We are also in contact with the consulate officials. We want to know what happened to Aayush," Shaili said.
She said the family is banking heavily on help from the UAE authorities. "We want to head to Iran and be at the place where the incident has happened. He went missing 30 nautical miles away from Assaluyeeh Port, Iran. He could be at a nearby island. He may be trapped somewhere. We firmly believe that Aayush is safe somewhere. He may even be in hiding."
The family is hoping that the authorities will swing into action after the Eid holidays.
