Police in Abu Dhabi have reminded people about being cautious while dealing with fire in the kitchen.

Sharing 10 precautionary measures on its Facebook page, the Abu Dhabi Police said kitchens are more prone to catch fire than any other areas of the house.  "Never leave the kitchen for long durations while cooking and never wear easily flammable clothes," said the force.

"All kitchen areas, including exhaust fans, must be cleaned from oils and gas cylinders must be closed before sleeping. Electric appliances must be switched off when not in use and children must be kept away from the kitchen at all times. Installing heat and smoke detectors is also very important," stressed the police.

All adults must learn to use fire extinguishers and also know how to alert family members and evacuate them in case of emergencies.

> Keep all flammable items away from cooking areas

> Switch off electrical appliances in case they are not used

> Keep kids away from cooking areas

> Instal heat detector and gas detector in the kitchen

> Ensure there is sufficient natural ventilation
