Police have issued fresh warnings against parents leaving their children alone in parked cars while shopping or for any other reason. This is a crime punishable by law, they reiterated.
"Leaving children alone inside parked cars at home or in other places is an act of negligence that may lead to serious consequences including death," the Abu Dhabi Police said on Sunday. Legal action will be taken against violators.

Children may die of suffocation or heat stroke inside a vehicle, especially with summer temperatures setting in, they added. Authorities have reported several previous incidents of kids getting trapped in cars or sleeping children being forgotten in the back seat. And in a number of occasions, these have resulted in tragedies.
"Parents shouldn't leave the responsibility of taking care of the small children to their older siblings or housemaids. Leaving children in cars, especially during this hot weather can cause them suffocate if the car stops operating."
Tiny tots may also tinker with a car's controls if no adult is around to look after them, authorities said.
There have been continuous warnings and intensive awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of leaving kids in cars.
"Parents should pay more attention to children and monitor them at all time," said the police.
