Drones could be used to light up dark accident sites in UAE

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence is exploring the possibility of using drones to light up pitch-black accident sites. Recently, the team carried out an experiment to see how this innovative solution could work.
Lt-Col Omar Salem Al Shehhi explained that the experiment took about three minutes, with the drone flown at a height of 40 metres.
They found that the drone light would be able to cover ?4,500 to 8,000sqm and would not require batteries. "The drone is also safe and can easily move from one place to another," Lt-Col Al Shehhi said.
Brig Mohamed Ibrahim Al Ameri, deputy director-general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said good lighting at accident sites can help rescue teams perform their duties.
The unmanned aircraft is equipped with a camera, so it can detect the exact source of a fire, allowing firefighters to quickly put it out, the authorities said. To get high-definition view, the cameras can be adjusted to reach farther distance.
The brightness ratio for this kind of lighting can go up to 1,000 lumens, plus the drone can be controlled from a distance of up to 500m, the civil defence said.
The drone experiment is part of the force's efforts to use the latest technologies to continuously improve emergency response, said Brig Al Ameri. "It falls within the framework of encouraging the application of advanced modern systems to achieve the highest levels of safety."
