A compensation amount of Dh400,000 has been awarded to the family of a construction worker, who died in a worksite accident due to the negligence of his supervisor and the site engineer.
The Abu Dhabi Cassation Court upheld earlier rulings by lower courts that ordered the engineer of the construction site, the victim's immediate supervisor and their employer to jointly pay the compensation payout to the victim's mother, wife and his two minor daughters.
Court documents stated that the Asian man was killed in a worksite accident. Investigations confirmed that the accident resulted from the negligence of the supervisor and the site engineer who didn't ensure safety requirements were in place at the worksite.
The Asian worker was the sole breadwinner for his family. Both the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance and the appellant court had told the defendants to pay Dh400,000 to the victim's heirs in compensation for the material and moral damages they suffered.
The company and its workers challenged the ruling to Abu Dhabi's top court which has rejected their appeal and maintained earlier verdicts.
