Fake Ramadan competitions falsely offer prizes to victims who "win", and request bank details to send the amount, resulting in financial fraud, authorities in Abu Dhabi warned.
Criminals also take advantage of the holy month to steal money by posting fake links to unofficial charities on social media, authorities warned.
It is important to verify authenticity of sites, avoid disclosing confidential data, and refuse to send financial amounts under any threat, Major General Muhammad Sohail Al-Rashdi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector of Abu Dhabi Police, emphasised.

Community members must not respond to announcements and anonymous messages circulated through social media sites and "chat" applications that divert religious and human sentiments to collect financial donations without permission, Colonel Rashid Khalid Al-Zahari, Director of the Directorate of Investigations and Criminal Investigations, said.
Those who want to do good, and help those in need, must deal with official charities and organisations, authorities added.
The public can report suspicious activity through the Abu Dhabi Police website or through the contact number 800 2626.
