UAE: 8 retail outlets face violations in Abu Dhabi for selling fish during seasonal trading ban
Authorities reiterated the importance of adhering to the relevant regulations that contribute to preserving fish stocks

Environmental violations were issued against eight fish retail outlets in Abu Dhabi for selling fish species during its breeding season.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) said the outlets were found displaying and selling the Longtail Silver Biddy, known locally as Badah, during a period when fishing and trading of the species is banned to protect its breeding cycle.

The agency said that these practices constitute a clear violation of the environmental regulations in force in the emirate, which aim to protect marine resources, preserve ecological balance, and ensure the sustainability of natural resources.

Badah fish are regarded as a key commercial species. To ensure the long-term sustainability of fish stocks in Abu Dhabi, EAD has introduced a range of regulations for fisheries' management in the emirate.
The agency reiterated the importance of all stakeholders in the fishing and fish trade sectors adhering to the relevant laws and regulations, in a way that contributes to preserving fish stocks and supports environmental sustainability efforts for future generations.
