Abu Dhabi, Al Ain temporarily close public beaches, parks due to unstable weather

Abu Dhabi City Municipality has temporarily closed all parks, recreational facilities and affiliated beaches while suspending events until further notice, as unstable weather conditions continue across the emirate.

The municipality said the measures were taken as a precaution to protect residents and ensure public safety amid fluctuating weather and heavy rainfall in several parts of Abu Dhabi.

Al Ain Municipality also announced the temporary closure of parks amid the rainy and unstable weather conditions affecting the emirate.

Advisories issued

Abu Dhabi Civil Defence also issued a weather advisory, urging the public to remain vigilant amid changing conditions and rainfall and to avoid areas prone to flooding, including wadis and water accumulation sites.

Earlier today, Abu Dhabi Police also activated speed reductions on several roads due to rainy conditions, with limits lowered to 80km/h on the Sweihan-Nahel, Al Khaznah-Remah, Umm Al Oush-Al Razeen and Al Faya-Al Khatim roads, among others.

The speed limit was also reduced to 100km/h on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road between Al Aryam Bridge and Abu Dhabi.

Driver safety during rain

Abu Dhabi Police issued safety guidelines for drivers, urging motorists to exercise caution and follow precautionary measures during the unstable weather:

• Observe speed limits when the road speed reduction system is activated and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

• Avoid sudden braking and slow down when turning to prevent skidding.

• Stay away from wadis and areas where water has accumulated.

Weather forecast today

The measures come as residents across the UAE experienced a rain-soaked start to the weekend, with showers reported in several areas on Friday, accompanied by overcast skies and cooler temperatures.

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology had forecast partly cloudy conditions on Friday, with a chance of cumulus clouds developing over eastern and southern areas and bringing rain during the afternoon.

UAE-based weather account Storm Centre also shared videos showing moderate to heavy rainfall across parts of the country, including Abu Dhabi.
