Driving is an attentive process that requires motorists to keep their focus on one thing — the road. In the UAE, authorities repeatedly stress the importance of avoiding distractions, highlighting how responsible driving can help save lives.
In the capital, Abu Dhabi, the police shared a video on Friday, April 3, 2026, to warn against distractions, reminding motorists of fines and penalties if their reckless driving leads to accidents, particularly when traffic stops suddenly for any reason.
The video features five real incidents of horrific collisions on the emirate’s roads, all caused by inattentive driving. In one accident, a car violently crashes into the rear of another vehicle because the driver fails to slow down as traffic ahead begins to slow. Other clips show drivers not paying attention to sudden stops on the road and crashing into vehicles in front of them.

Penalties, fines
The Abu Dhabi Police have alerted motorists that if they cause accidents because they are not focusing on the road, they will be fined Dh800 in addition to accumulating four black points.
Black points are penalties imposed on motorists for serious traffic violations, with the number of points depending on the severity of the offence. Once a motorist accumulates 24 points within a year, this usually results in the suspension of his/her driver's licence.
