Ten buses shuttling three of the most popular public bus routes in Abu Dhabi are now equipped with Wifi for the convenience of passengers, announced the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) at the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) on Sunday.
All 520 buses will be fully-equipped with Wifi by the end of March 2020, according to the ICT. The free Wifi service, provided by the du telecommunication, will also be available at bus shelters as well as the main bus stations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region.
"The move is to improve transport services in Abu Dhabi and to encourage more people to use public transport," Ali Mohammed Al Jauidi, acting director for technical infrastructure at the ITC, told Khaleej Times during the launch of the service.
Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, executive director of public transport at the ICT, said: "The signing of the contract with du to provide a free Wifi service on public buses, is part of the ongoing efforts by the ITC to improve the quality of services in this sector and to meet customers' needs in order to raise the level of satisfaction of our services. The introduction of Wifi on public transport buses will attract more people use these sophisticated services."
Authorities said the toll gate system announced in July is aimed at encouraging the public to use Abu Dhabi's public transport network, reduce the use of private vehicles and carpooling by company employees and even family members.
