Small distractions on the road can lead to sudden deviations, the authority said, urging motorists to avoid using their mobile phones

Through an eye-opening video shared by Abu Dhabi Police, the authority has called on motorists to avoid distracted driving.
The video, a compilation of several CCTV camera recordings, showed multiple instances of cars colliding and causing accidents at intersections.
Small distractions on the road can lead to sudden deviations, the authority said, urging motorists to avoid using their mobile phones to browse the internet, use social media, make calls or take photos.
"Such behaviour poses a danger by causing traffic accidents as a result of not paying attention to the road while driving."

Police emphasised that doing anything while driving is "extremely dangerous". They urged drivers to remain attentive while driving, pay attention to pedestrians, road signs and surroundings, and follow the instructions of traffic police officers to avoid accidents.
They also reminded residents that Law No. (5) of 2020 concerning vehicle impoundment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi stipulates that running a red traffic light carries a fine of Dh1,000, 12 traffic points, and vehicle impoundment for 30 days.
The fee to release an impounded vehicle is Dh50,000, along with a suspension of the driver’s licence for six months starting from the date of licence withdrawal.
The vehicle will remain impounded until the release fee is paid, for a maximum period of three months. If the dues are not settled, the vehicle will be referred for sale at public auction.
