UAE: Abu Dhabi allocates 1,000-square-metre beach area for the visually impaired
The beach will be open daily from 6am to 12am but swimming will be permitted from 6am until sunset

To cater for the leisure needs of the visually impaired in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, authorities have designated a 1,000-square-meter beach for them, offering this cherished segment of society a range of free services.
The newly designated area is located near Gate 3 of the Corniche, Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport said in a statement on Friday.

The initiative, which comes in line with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed's decision to name 2025 the "Year of Community", is the fruit of collaboration between the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality and the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination.

Tailored services
Among the services provided in the area to ensure the visually impaired will have a safe and enjoyable environment with comprehensive security, safety, and entertainment facilities, there are:
A dedicated shuttle service for People of Determination to facilitate transportation to and from the beach
Paved guidance pathways with specialised tactile tiles extending along the walkway
An instructional Braille signboard detailing the proper use of the swimming area
A fenced pathway equipped with a guiding rope and alert bells at both ends, emitting sound cues to direct users to the swimming area
A designated swimming zone supervised by a trained lifeguard to ensure safety
A Braille service guide that provides comprehensive details to ensure a seamless experience for the visually impaired visitors of all ages
In addition to these specialised services, the Visually Impaired Beach offers several amenities aimed at enhancing accessibility and comfort, such as: free entry for the visually impaired visitors, along with one accompanying guest - accessible walkways for People of Determination and the elderly - dedicated restrooms for People of Determination - floating wheelchairs designed for water access
complimentary drinking water stations - free transportation services for People of Determination and senior citizens - designated parking spaces for People of Determination.

The beach will be open daily from 6am to 12am but swimming will be permitted from 6am until sunset.
Regarding safety measures, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has ensured that the beach is designed to cater to the unique needs of visually impaired visitors, allowing them to enjoy an independent swimming experience while maintaining the highest safety standards.
A licensed nurse will be available on-site during the beach’s operating hours to provide first aid assistance if needed.
"The beach has been recognized by the World Disability Union as a Disability-Friendly Beach, underscoring its compliance with global accessibility standards", the municipality said in a statement.
