Looking for reasons to switch to environment-friendly cars in the UAE? Here's one: Free reserved parking in paid zones across Dubai! The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has provided 70 free parking spaces for environment-friendly vehicles in 40 paid parking zones.
Locations include the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, Central Business District and World Trade Centre area.
According to a top RTA official, the authority will introduce more free parking spots for environment-friendly cars in high-density traffic areas and streets "with the aim of covering most paid parking zones in vital areas".
To make it easier for users of the free parking spaces, they are marked by frames painted in green with signs showing the maximum allowed use time, and fines applicable on parking violations.
"Only eco-friendly vehicles are allowed to access these parking slots, and for a time limit of four hours, which will increase the rotation of using each parking," said Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA's traffic and roads agency.
Authorities had earlier announced other incentives for electric car owners, including exemption from RTA registration and renewal vehicle fees; free Salik tag; and free charging at 100 stations across Dubai.
