7-year-old Indian girl dies after falling from third-floor apartment in Sharjah
The only child of her parents, Safa was alone for just five minutes while her father stepped out to move the car and her mother was at work

A seven-year-old Indian girl died after falling from her family’s third-floor apartment in Sharjah on Monday morning, in a tragedy that according to a relative has left her family devastated.
The girl, Safa, was in the family’s apartment in Al Nabba when the incident happened. Her uncle, Mansoor Ali, told Khaleej Times that she was alone in the home for no more than five minutes.

Her mother Murshida, who works in Sharjah, was at her workplace when the tragedy occurred, while her father Mubarak had stepped out of the apartment.

“Her mother had gone to work, and my brother (the child’s father) had gone to move his car in the parking,” he said. “He was probably out for just five minutes.”
Mansoor said the family believes Safa might have opened the sliding window of the apartment to look for her father outside. “She must have lost her balance and fallen out when she looked,” he said.
Safa was a Grade 2 student at a private school in Ajman and the only child of her parents. Her family, originally from the southern Indian state of Kerala, has been living in the UAE for nine years.
Tragedy after a celebration
According to Mansoor, the accident came just days after a big celebration for the entire family. He and his wife returned from India along with Mubarak, Murshida and Safa last week after a big wedding. “On August 15, our sister’s son got married in India,” he said. “We were all there together. She had spent so much time with her cousins and was so happy. It was such a joyous occasion for the family.”
He added that the young girl was looking forward to going back to school after the summer break.
An investigation is under way about the incident and according to Mansoor, it will take a few days for the formalities to be completed. The family plans to bury Safa in the UAE, according to Mansoor.
Sharjah Police issues statement
Sharjah Police confirmed the incident to Khaleej Times, saying that the Operations Room received a report early on Monday morning and emergency teams immediately rushed to the scene. The child’s body was transferred to the forensic laboratory to determine the exact cause of death. Police have launched an intensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police added that they believe the incident was just an accident and that there was no criminal act behind the death of the girl.
